Day 5 - Exploring Routes
This morning began with a big breakfast of eggs, toast, and fruit to fuel the girls for our adventurous day of hiking Bald Mountain. After each girl assembled their trail mix and sandwiches were selected, we were on our way.
Marijke, Chloë’s sister, surprised the girls at the trail head of Bald Mountain, adding energy and motivation to the group. During the hike, Chloë paused the group to go over what to do if you ever got lost in the woods. We did not worry about losing anybody on this hike, but we wanted to share with them proper protocol just so they knew. Many trail mix and water stops later, we reached a point in the trail where anyone who wanted to stop hiking could, yet every girl decided to push through and made it to the top!
We enjoyed the delicious wild blueberries that were growing at the top of Bald while sharing stories and taking a well deserved break. The view was incredible and through some mountain top yoga, the girls discovered how cool the view looked upside down in downward dog.
Once we were back at the house, we took a quick dip in the lake to cool off before rest hour where no surprise: everyone slept. We made a yummy afternoon snack, sticky rice balls with soy sauce, followed by a longer swim in the lake. We then had free time and showers and began preparing tonight’s meal. Sticking to Camp Chlöe tradition, we had a Thanksgiving feast for our final meal. The menu consisted of stuffing, mashed potatoes, butternut squash (a surprising favorite for the girls), peas, rolls, cranberry sauce, “ritzy ritz appetizer” (ritz crackers with cheese), palate cleanser (frozen grapes with raspberry sauce) and sparkling apple cider. The final course was the leftover desserts from our cooking competition yesterday, it was quite a tasty night!
We ended the day in our normal bedtime routine, Chloë reads Nancy Drew as the girls draw and drink tea followed by some free reading time and it was time for bed. We had a fantastic last night of camp and I’m so happy to have spent this week adventuring and exploring with this special group of girls!
