GTO 2024 - Day 1

Today was another great first day of camp! This morning was rainy and wet so we had a cozy breakfast of oatmeal with fresh fruit, cream, and brown sugar. Then the new campers arrived and we played a game of Anomia as we waited for everyone to get settled. Then we introduced ourselves, played a couple ice breaker games, and talked through the camp rules. After going over the rules and camp norms, we headed to our cabins to spend some time bonding with our cabin mates — making cabin names, themes, decorations, and playing various games together. After hanging out together and getting to know each other better, we took a swim in the lake, described as “bath tub water” in comparison to the air, before settling in the kitchen cabin for a lunch of baked potatoes with various toppings. Full and happy, we went to our cabins for rest time and took naps, read, and relaxed in our beds as it rained outside. After resting we came back to the kitchen and got out our glue sticks to make personalized collage clipboards with magazine images and letters! After finishing our clipboards we transitioned into free time which consisted of showers and helping to make chocolate chip cookies. For dinner we had an interactive meal and made personal onigiri (Japanese rice balls) at the table together, followed by our freshly baked cookies for dessert. We then got ready for bed and gathered in one of the cabins to play Wavelength — a camp favorite! We had planned the evening around the weather timing and just as anticipated, we got a pretty exciting storm right as we were settling into our beds. Since it’s hard to fall asleep in the middle of a thunderstorm, we spent some more time reading and hanging out with our cabin mates before heading to sleep! Looking forward to another full day tomorrow 💫
